Advice from people who has previously bought tickets for past Olympic games.?

I'd like to buy tickets to the upcoming Olympic games and wondered what people's experiences were in terms of securing tickets and being granted allocations. Should I put in an request for more events than I'd like, just in case I don't get into any of my first choice events? What were the odds like for getting in?

You could put in more requests just in case, but there's also a risk because if you do get more tickets it could be very expensive.

You have a better chance obviously if you buy them early. Tickets don't usually go on sale until a year or two before the actual olympics, so keep checking the websites and maybe sign up for a newsletter to get faster warnings for when tickets start to sell.

You can either go directly to the Olympic site, or use a travel agent that is directing a tour group.

The odds of getting the tickets you want is determined by how popular that event is.

Some sports in the summer Olympics do not sell out and some are scalped for 10 times their face value.
what?
